Open-to-buy is the remaining sum a retailer may still commit this season after stock on hand and stock already ordered are counted. We set it by category — groceries, hardware, apparel, whatever you actually buy — so a generous order in tea does not silently steal the envelope meant for soap.
The work needs a stock value you trust, a list of open purchase orders, and a sales plan that is at least as honest as last year’s till. We will argue with a plan that assumes a doubling of a quiet category. The finished sheet is a set of envelopes, not a licence to over-order “because the vendor is in town.”
